The process if branding is purely formulating a name, and image to place in the mind of customers and potential consumers. This is often communicated through advertisements and promotions. Branding includes multiple factors; the name of the brand (i.e. Apple), logo (the apple with a bite out of it) and slogan (think different). It is creating a unique overall image for a brand. This is so that it becomes more easily known for potential consumers.
Branding helps to differentiates brands from each other, allows for increased prices and allows a brand image to be implemented. The brand is also used to communicate with customers. It creates a representation of the business in the minds of customers and consumers.

In fact, Business Insider and Forbes mentions that branding is the primary reason for room bookings worldwide. The perception of a brand is the biggest seller of a hotel company's products and services. Often it has an even bigger impact than the price or the appearance of a hotel.
On online booking websites, such as booking.com, users often opt to filter their options based on the hotel brands that they know and looking before exploring other options that may actually be better. There is a myriad of different types of hotels and different values for each. The branding is a way for a hotel group to really show how they are different and why customers should stay at their hotels.
